Fred Meyer opening date set

T he Fred Meyer building at the new Maple Valley Town Square is starting to take shape, but shoppers must wait more than four more months for the doors to open.

The store is scheduled to open for business on Friday, June 8, according to Fred Meyer spokesperson Melinda Merrill.

The store will feature an “upscale” design inside and out, she says. Only two other Fred Meyer stores — both near Portland — have a similar look, with a warm stone exterior that “fits better into the community.”

“It’s not our big white box like [the Fred Meyer in] Covington,” Merrill says.

Inside, the store will offer products that are “a little higher end,” including more natural and organic groceries as well as items such as gourmet cheese and olives, she says. She said shoppers can expect an inventory similar to the Ballard Fred Meyer.

The store will begin hiring its 250 employees soon. Prospective employees can check the Fred Meyer web site, where hiring information should be posted in the next couple months, Merrill says.
